I'm sure by now you've seen the new commercial for the "funnest iPod ever"--the iPod Touch 2.0. The commercial seemed to be playing on at least 3 channels at any given time for the entire month of October.
The song featured in the commercial, "Around the Bend" by The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, is awesome. I couldn't find much info about the six-man Swedish band but their debut album is set to be released in early 2009. Oh and the guys' names are Sven, Mette, Mads, Miloud, Lars, and Jasper--sweet. Check out both the song and commercial below.

This is the 3rd week of Daily Handful which means we've made it past any potential sophomore slump. To celebrate I figured I'd post some light-hearted fun mixes for this week's Mixed Up Monday.
Up first is a mix of Christina Aguilera's newest "Keep's Getting Better." While part of me misses the days of Redman cameos, the Jody den Broeder Radio Mix is pretty damn catchy.
Time to crank up that car radio, because Glow Tapel's String Cheese Mix is straight up golden. The 5 minute mashup features tracks from The Verve, Kanye West, MGMT, Justice, and Lupe Fiasco. For the most part the vocals are the two Chi-town rappers flowing over bittersweet symphony but it's awesome.
Tunes:
Christina Aguilera - Keeps Gettin Better (Jody den Broeder Radio Mix)
Glow Tapel's String Cheese Mashup (The Verve, Kanye, Lupe Fiasco, Justice, MGMT)
Paramore's Hayley Williams may be addicted to misery, but the band's new single "I Caught Myself" kicks ass. The band recorded two tracks for the upcoming Twilight soundtrack: Decode and I Caught Myself. Paramore continues to rock the emo scene without coming off as whiny (see: Avril Lavigne).
Next up, Justin Timberlake has released a new track "Magic." Whether or not this will be the first official single off his new album is yet to be seen. This new one from JT is straight up dance/pop and reminds me more of Justified than it does FutureSex/Love Sounds. The Timbaland influence is definitely missing, but the track is pretty good nonetheless.
Tunes:
Paramore - I Caught Myself
Justin Timberlake - Magic
This collapsible refrigerator from Electrolux offers the perfect solution for the poor bachelor. Why pay more to keep a traditional fridge cold when the only thing in it is a six pack of Miller Lite, a jar of pickles, and 1/2 a lb. of turkey that may or may not be edible?
This Electrolux fridge molds to the height you need to both save you money and space in your bachelor pad or dorm room.

Halloween is this Friday and I was trying to figure out a way to throw in a festive post. I thought about posting pictures of the latest in college-aged female costumes but really all you need to do is pick a noun, and insert the word "slutty" before it: slutty nurse, slutty flight attendant, slutty firefighter, slutty broccoli--you get the idea.
So instead I figured I'd throw some old favorites by the Smashing Pumpkins. While the band has nothing to do with Halloween, their name includes the word "Pumpkin" and Billy Corgan is roughly the same color as your run of the mill ghost.
Tunes:
Smashing Pumpkins - Today
Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm

Yet another music drop. This time around we've got some cover tracks from three of the music blog scene's favorite artists: Ryan Adams, The Kooks, & Moby.
Ryan Adam's cover of "Wonderwall" by Oasis is a quiet, mellow, version of the British rockers' most well known song. While the track loses some of its arena sing-along quality, this echoing, acoustic cover is top notch.
Speaking of British rockers--it seems the Kooks fresh off their cover of MGMT's "The Kids," have done it again. This time the boys from across the pond tackled one of my newest favorite songs "Young Folks" by Peter Bjorn and John. The Kooks added their own spin to the song and gave it a feel reminiscent of Elvis Costello.
Finally we've got a Moby cover of Radiohead's "Creep." It's a live track so you have to sit through a little crowd noise in the beginning but it's worth it. I'm not that big on Moby, but this track will definitely have me giving him a fresh listen.
Tunes:
Ryan Adams - Wonderwall (Oasis over)
The Kooks - Young Folks (Peter Bjorn and John cover)
Moby - Creep (Radiohead cover)
Here's the next dose of Mixed Up Monday tunes. After the weekend Mondays always seem like they are a hell of a lot longer than 24 hours. Here's some great mashups to get you through the grind.
First on the list is some Rihanna vs. T-Pain action with a mashup of "Buy You a Drank" and "Umbrella." The tracks blend together with T-Pain's R&B vocals blending nicely with the more hip hop drum beat of "Umbrella."
Next up is a mashup of Cherish's "Killa" with Ciara's "One Two Step." While the change in beat certainly won't make you bust moves like Ciara & co. in the video, it should get a foot tapping.
Rounding out the trio is a mashup of "Bed" and "Apologize" by J. Holiday and One Republic respectively. This is my favorite of the three tracks. It's definitely got that slow jam feel and I'd argue that the One Republic beat makes this track better than either original.
Tunes:
T-Pain vs. Rihanna - Buy You An Umbrella
Ciara vs. Cherish - Killa Step
J. Holiday vs. One Republic - Apologize in Bed
I know its late Sunday and its almost Monday but I just came across some cool songs of the pop variety and figured I'd post them before I forgot.
First up is Lady Gaga with "Paper Gangsta" a fast paced pop song with a kick ass piano backing. Lady Gaga, an NYU alum, has been tearing through the online music scene of late and rightfully so.
Next up is "Another for the Darkness" by Gemma Hayes. Gemma Hayes is an Irish singer-songwriter in the vain of Missy Higgins or Tristan Prettyman with a little mainstream Colbie Callait thrown in for good measure.
The third track Lilly Allen's latest "Everyone's At It," one of her best in my opinion, is an ode to drug use and addiction. The dance-pop tune has some cool electronic background noise. I'm sure a few remixes with pop up in the next few days.
To round out the quartet we've got Lovers Electric with "Start Again." If you happen to enjoy shitty television, you might recognize the Lovers Electric from MTVs The Hills which featured a number of their songs. The Australian electro-pop duo was recently on tour supporting Colbie Callait.
Tunes:
Lady Gaga - Paper Gangsta
Gemma Hayes - Another for the Darkness
Lilly Allen - Everyone's At It
Lovers Electric - Start Again
A new international trailer for the sixth installment of the Harry Potter series: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has been released. The film directed by David Yates features all the usual cast of characters including Daniel Radcliff, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Ralph Fiennes, and Alan Rickman. The movie is due out July 27, 2008 in both conventional and IMAX theaters. Check it out below.

The streak that stretched back to February 2004 has finally been ended thanks to a 10th minute goal by Liverpool's Xabi Alonzo. Chelsea had been unbeaten at Stamford Bridge for 86 consecutive games.
Despite a few real chances for Chelsea, they were unable to get one past Liverpool's keeper. This win adds to Liverpools growing momentum as a force to be reckoned with in the Premiere League and shows they can challenge the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea for the title.

I don't know who is leaking tracks of their upcoming album faster, Fall Out Boy or Kanye West. Patrick Stump and Co. just released another single off their soon to be released Folie a Duex. This time its the semi-rock track "America's Suitehearts."
The track is a little more reminiscent of previous Fall Out Boy works than a track like "What a Catch Donnie," and the band might have chosen to release it early to finally create the stir that the last few track leaks failed to.
Oh and is it me or is Pete Wentz looking exponentially more emo these days? Maybe its because he's wearing Ashlee Simpson's clothes...
Tunes:
Fall Out Boy - America's Suitehearts
Mr. West is in the building. Again. Kanye has just released "Robocop," another track off his upcoming 808s and Heartbreaks album.
Kanye, ever the outspoken wordsmith--remember that little Katrina TV spot with Mike Myers?--has really taken an interest in the public opinion with this new album. By releasing tracks pre-mastering on his blog he has allowed fans and critics to give input on the track, and in many cases that input has been used to change, edit, or add to the song for it's final release. Check out "Robocop" below.

Spin.com has just released a Top 25 MGMT Remixes list on their website. The list is extremely varied with the remixes featuring the likes of Notorious BIG, Talib Kweli, The Kooks, Katy Perry, & Daft Punk. Remixers include Immuzikation, DJ Topcat, Justice, and Soulwax.
The folks at Pretty Much Amazing! did a hell of a job reviewing and posting links for all of the remixes so check em out. Some are better than others but they are all pretty sweet.
Today we've got two great covers and two songs that I've just been listening to a lot recently. First up is a Fiona Apple cover of the Beatles' "Across the Universe." She may be a "bad, bad, girl" but she does a really good job covering this song. Next up is a John Mayer solo acoustic cover of Radiohead's "Kid A."
As for the non-covers, I've recently been listening to Nada Surf's "Happy Kid" and Bloc Party's "This Modern Love." Both songs are quick paced with solid guitar riffs and drum beats that lend themself well to playing air drums in your car when no one is looking.
Tunes:
Fiona Apple - Across the Universe (Beatles Cover)
John Mayer - Kid A (Radiohead Cover)
Nada Surf - Happy Kid
Bloc Party - This Modern Love
A few weeks ago I made the switch from PC to Mac and I've been more than impressed with Apple's Macbook. I'm not gonna go into all the cool apps available for the Mac--anyone with 5 minutes and Google can sort that one out for themselves--but I did want to point out one program that has changed the way I listen to music: Pandora Jam. Hopefully you are familiar with Pandora.com and the Music Genome project (if not click here).
Enter PandoraJam for the Mac. The first great feature is that it lets Pandora play right from your desktop so you don't need an internet browser open taking up desktop space. More importantly, Pandora Jam records the songs you are listening to with the click of a button, saving them as mp3's and importing them into your iTunes fully tagged with artist, album, and artwork. With the free version you need to click record every 5 or 6 songs, but if you want to pay $12 for the licensed version, you just have to click it once. This handy little app also works with Growl and Last.fm scrobbling.

ABC has just released a promotional teaser/trailer for Lost Season 5 which returns in early 2009. Check it out.
Warning: The clip contains some pretty big spoilers for anyone who hasn't finished Season 4.
Also at around 40 seconds there is a white flash as Jack--looking extremely ZZ Top--is talking to Ben. If you check out the screenshot below, you can see that during that flash the words Dharma Initiative are visible.
